Namibia's First Graduation

The Top 10 Students all achieved over 90% aver
In September 2014, the first AFMIN graduation was held in Windhoek, Namibia.  What an experience!  To the sounds of the Police Brass Band, 34 graduates filed into the building.  The atmosphere was filled with excitement.  There was a sense of great pride from family friends, and the AFMIN staff, as each graduate was called to the stage to receive their diplomas.

Okhandja May 2014

The attendance of Students at the May 2014 AFMIN ON10 School was be best yet.  94 Students registered for the week.  Many are preparing for graduation in September 2014 and presented their ON10 Trainee information and wrote exams.  Overall, the Students results are very good and we are very pleased with their hard work.  Lance Wolter, a Pastor from Brisbane Australia, visited the School to teach on Praise and Worship.  His teaching was enjoyed by all and the time of worship at the end of the teachings were truly anointed by the Lord.  Everyone present was touched in some way and many received prophetic words of encouragement. The buzz of chatter and laughter in the dining hall was evidence of the good friendships that have developed between the Students over the passed 4 years.  We are now preparing and looking forward to Graduation, which will take place on 12 September 2014.

Namibia On10...

Nambia is one of the only countries in AFMIN that finance their On10 Schools.  It is not easy but they trust God for raising the funds. Judea Harvest in Namibia is their biggest sponser. There are 80 registered students and is made up of Accredited students who pay $75 US per school, and the Afmin Deploma students who pay $25 US.  This is the only School where the students on the accredited scheme are paying their tuition fees in full.  So this is very good.  For the first time, we had the local students ministering and teaching the rest of the students.  Ron Gardner, the co-ordinator in Namibia, started teaching with me about 2 years ago.  Also, Marietjie de Klerk taught on Church Administration.  For a woman to minister in Africa, this is a tremendous breakthrough, even if it was just on the subject for Admin.  Thank God we can empower the women and the locals to even be better teachers that we are.
Gert Basson fron Kaleideoscope in Randburg, RSA accompanied me to Namibia. It was a busy time. For 4 days we were finalising the students information/registrations for graduation next year. Some of the students were a bit under par with their studies but we spent time with them. By the next School in May 2014, we are expecting to clear them for graduation. We are presently receiving their assignments and their On10 reports in order to get them up-to-date. Our first graduation in Namibia is planned for October 2014.

Herman Potgieter

Herman Potgieter, one of our young people from Kraaifontein, who served the Lord under our ministry during 2002/2004,  is now staying in Okahandja. He and his wife Maré invited us for a kudu-steak braai on the Thursday night. It was wonderful to spend an evening with them in fellowship. Their excitement in serving the Lord really blessed me and Alta.

Namibia AFMIN On10 School - September 2012

After the May 2012 AFMIN School was cancelled, we all were looking forward to the School being planned for September 2012 at Elim in the Okahandja area.

We gathered the Monday night for a prayer meeting. Pastor Ron Gardener ministered on the importance of prayer in the Ministry. An hour of corporate prayer was set aside for this opening night.

On the Tuesday morning, 61 students registered for the third semester. We welcomed 16 new students! We knew from the start that teaching 4 subjects in 4 days would be a tough task! Dr. Gert Basson taught on the subjects of Planting a Church and Effective Preaching, while Ron Gardiner and myself taught on Spiritual Warfare and Spiritual Leadership respectively.

On our way back to the RSA we spent the Weekend with our dear friends Johan and Berdine de Klerk from Karas in the southern part of Namibia.

God willing , we are planning to be back in Namibia in May 2013.

Emmanual Church - Leader's Seminar

Emmanuel Church in Windhoek, Namibia, is a congregation who have a heart for missions. Recently, they organised a Leaders’ Seminar at the Arebbush Travel Lodge, outside Windhoek.

Ron Gardiner, the missions’ pastor at Emmanuel, hosted the weekend. I, Johan, was invited to represent AFMIN at the Seminar.

Ron Gardiner and his wife.

I presented the topic, Biblical Worldview and Ron shared some incredible information regarding culture and religion throughout the world. As one listens to this, it is evident that there is still a vast work needed so as to reach the nations for Jesus Christ with the Gospel of the Kingdom..

Many contacts and new friends were made at this Seminar and I was blessed to bump into an old childhood friend Nico Horn and his wife Elsa, whom I had not seen for many years.
AFMIN will hold its first On10 School in Namibia during May 2011.

Namibian Trip - filled with Blessings

Our most recent trip to meet with church leaders in Namibia, was a wonderful success. Two young adults from our fellowship group in Cape Town, Johan and Ilanie, (whom we fondly call our “sons”) accompanied us on this trip. From the start we knew that this will be a fourteen day trip.

Our first stop was to visit Johan and Berdine de Klerk on the farm “Arbeid” in the the “Klein-Karas” area near Grünao. We introduced them to you, about two years ago, on this Blog. Although they are sheep farmers, they are been used mightily by the Lord in the ministry to the local farmers, especially through Berdine’s work among the women of Namibia. We spent a night at their farm and enjoyed fellowshipping with them while encourageing them regarding the Kingdom of God, the Son-ship Spirit and other relevant subjects.

WINDHOEK

We then spent 2 days in Windhoek. Margaret Mwale welcomed us once again, and introduced us to various pastors and church leaders who showed great interest in the work of AFMIN. Pastor Ron Gardiner from Emmanuel Church in Windhoek was instrumental in scheduling a three day break-away to be held in Okahandja during 2-4 September 2010. This will be a time of training and ministering for all church leaders. We are hoping to follow up this visit with an official Afmin school during the next two years.

Swakopmund was our next port of call, where we met with Pastor Martin van Niekerk and members of the AFM leadership in Namibia.
We visited Ilene Howard, a friend of ours in Henties Bay and spent a few days enjoying her hospitality. Our son JP and his wife Genevieve had joined us in Windhoek and we were blessed to be able to spend a few days enjoying their company. After an enjoyable time fishing and sight-seeing in and around the ERONGO region we started our journey back to the RSA.

On our return trip to the de Klerk’s farm, we had two amazing experiences. The first was when we stopped at a bridge to stretch our leg and take photos at a steel railway bridge, spanning over the Asab river in the HARDAP region. Our attention was drawn to 2 small pools of water in a dry river bed. The next thing we knew, a wall of water came gushing down this normally dry river bed. It was a sight to see, as all this water filled the dry dessert river bed from bank to bank and rushed under the bridges. The Lord spoke to our hearts through this experience, which left us standing amazed and in awe. It was not surprising to be told that Asab in the Nama language means “NEW”. For Alta, myslef and all our sons it announced a time of new beginnings. This is our KAIROS, a season with an opportunity.

Water gushing down the dry river bed.

Our second experience was when we drove into a thunderstorm about 60 km from the de Klerk’s farm. The downpour was so heavy that within 10 minutes we were surrounded by streams of water. There in the centre of a semi-desert farm we found ourselves in a situation where water once again covered the dry and thirsty land.

Our small pools of water in the dry-land have changed into streams of rushing rivers.

This rainbow which followed the storm, was a wonderful reminder of God's promise to fulfilled His Word on our lives.

Proposed AFMIN ON10 School for Namibia

We are looking forward, with anticipation, to the AFMIN Seminar to be held in Windhoek, during November 2009. We are blessed by the response so far and look forward to meeting new church leaders and once again seen everyone whom we met last year.

I will also take the opportunity to meet with some Church leaders in Windhoek, with regards to beginning an AFMIN On10 School in the near future, which forms part of our agenda for Namibia.
UPCOMING SEMINAR IN WINDHOEK

We have been privileged to visit Namibia a few times. Each visit proves to be a personal highlight in our lives. In July 2008, we visited Windhoek, where we were privileged to introduce AFMIN onto Namibian soil.

Margaret Mwale, who previously was an AFMIN secretary in Zambia, did a marvelous job of organizing AFMIN’s first seminar in Windhoek. The enthusiastic church leaders from various denominations that attended the seminar, were thrilled to hear of all that AFMIN has to offer. A wonderful spirit of fellowship was experienced over lunch. It was obvious that the doors have swung open wide for AFMIN’s welcome entry in Namibia..

We are planning to hold another seminar for church leaders in Windhoek in 2009. I am meeting with some Church leaders in Windhoek during November 2009. It is part of our agenda to begin an AFMIN On10 school in the near future.

AFMIN CONFERENCE SOON IN WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA

AFMIN (Africa Ministries Network Leadership Institute) is currently ministering in various African counties. To date, we have established Afmin On10 Schools in 17 of these countries.

We visited Windhoek during 2008, when we held a one-day conference to test the waters regarding launching an official Afmin On10 School in Namibia. I would like to draw your attention to the upcoming visit of AFMIN to Windhoek Namibia.

We are planning a 3 day Afmin Conference, in Windhoek from 12-29 November 2009.

The theme for the Conference will include subjects like “The Importance of Leadership Training for the Church”; “What is a non formal model of Biblical and Theological Training?”; “What is in-service training programs, research and consultation to African church leaders?”; together with information sessions.

Last year, Margaret Mwale assisted us by organizing our first Afmin Conference in Namibia. Margaret was a secretary for Afmin in Zambia but in now resides in Windhoek. She is presently our liaison contact person for the Conference in July.
